What Can I Do To My Stubborn, Dry Natural Hair?

yesterday evening, I got a mail from a follower on twitter. This was what the mail read word for word..

" Hello. I have a really big problem. I cut my hair last year august to go natural & its almost a year now it still hasn't shown improvement"

"I have a really stubborn and dry hair. I've given up on it. I need help. Thanks"

so today, we are going to help our friend with solutions.

Now the question is what causes dry hair?
  • frequent use of shampoo.

  • Use of shampoo with harsh sulphates.
  • Use of products with alcohol.
  • Not drinking enough water (water works).
  • Sleeping on a cotton pillowcase or using a cotton scarf, which rob hair of moisture
  • Overly porous or low porosity hair.
  • Not using water based hair moisturizers.
  • Not sealing moisture in with an oil or butter(http://www.groomingnaturals.blogspot.com/2014/06/moisturizing-natural-hair.html
  • Improper hair pH
  • Excessive use of heavy products w/out proper cleansing (build-up)
  • Chemical Damage such as relaxers or other chemical straighteners
  • Colour treated hair.
  • Using too much direct heat (blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, etc. on a consistent basis)
  • Too much chlorine (from swimming pools or tap water)
  • Salt (from ocean water)
  • General weathering from the elements

  • If you can avoid theses then you wont have dry hair that is stubborn and annoying.

NB: Find out WHY your hair is dry. After you establish this, you can determine how best to combat the issue. Remember, the goal is to always keep your hair well-moisturized. Well, as best you can anyway!
